Marcelo has 34 years of experience in the Brazilian equity market, having worked 10 years at UBS Pactual (1998-2008) and 7 years at Banco Garantia (1991-1998) before founding Leblon Equities in 2008. At UBS Pactual, he was co-head of the Capital Markets division (2007-2008), co-head of the Equities division (2005-2007), and head of the Corporate Analysis and Strategy division (1998-2006). At Banco Garantia, he was a commodities analyst (1991-1997) and an investment banker (1997-1998).
Since 1995, Marcelo has been recognized by investors as one of Brazil’s top analysts, according to several surveys conducted by Institutional Investor magazine. He was ranked “#1 Brazil Analyst” in 2003 and 2006 (in addition to #3 in 2002, #2 in 2001, and #3 in 2000). Marcelo was also voted “#1 Equity Strategist in Brazil” by the Institutional Investor Magazine Brazil Survey in 2005, 2004, and 2003.
Marcelo holds a degree in Economics from PUC-RJ, a degree in French Studies from the University of Nancy II, and an OPM from Harvard. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Klabin, Tamboro, and the PUC-RJ Endowment. He served for 8 years (2016-2024) on the Petrobras Board as an independent director elected by minority shareholders and for 3 years (2013-2016) on the Board of Priner Serviços Industriais.
